Salary Range: $135,000-$150,000. Compensation commensurate with experience.

PCI is the leading voice for the powder coating industry in North America and is advancing toward becoming the global authority on all things powder. PCI promotes powder coating technology and communicates its economic, environmental, and quality advantages to manufacturers, applicators, suppliers, end-users, and regulators. PCI is a nonprofit professional association dedicated to expanding powder coating utilization as an economical, low-emission, high-quality finish for industrial and consumer products.​​

About Capitol Hill Management Services (CHMS)
PCI is managed by CHMS, an Association Management Company (AMC). CHMS provides association management services including event management, financial management, certification, education & testing, governance, strategic development, and communications & marketing.
The Executive Director will be employed by CHMS and serve as PCI’s senior staff leader in partnership with the CHMS team. The Executive Director will be responsible for carrying out the directives of the PCI Board of Directors and will be supported by various CHMS departments to ensure the highest level and quality of services are delivered.
Position Summary
The Executive Director is PCI’s chief executive and public face — responsible for strategic leadership, operational management, member and stakeholder engagement, advocacy, and events. This role requires a proactive, relationship-driven leader who can build coalitions across the powder coating value chain, represent the industry at trade shows and forums, and strengthen PCI’s position as the industry authority. Significant travel is required to represent PCI at industry events, member sites, and stakeholder meetings.
This is a hybrid/remote role with an expectation of periodic in-person meetings.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Governance

Act as primary staff liaison to PCI’s Board of Directors; translate board strategy into measurable priorities and operational plans.

Lead strategic planning, policy development, and governance best practices; prepare board materials, agendas, and timely follow-ups.

Drive initiatives that expand PCI’s technical leadership, training, standards, and global reach.

Operations & Financial Management

Oversee day-to-day operations delivered through CHMS, ensuring efficient service to members and compliance with governance policies.

Develop and manage PCI budgets; monitor financial performance and fiscal stewardship.

Coordinate with legal, accounting, and CHMS teams to ensure regulatory and nonprofit compliance.

Membership, Stakeholder & Coalition Building

Lead membership growth, retention, and value strategies tailored to manufacturers, applicators, suppliers, and end-users.

Proactively build and sustain strong relationships with industry stakeholders, trade associations, standards bodies, regulators, and strategic partners.

Convene and grow cross-sector coalitions to advance shared technical, regulatory, and market objectives.

Communications & Representation

Serve as PCI’s primary external communicator—deliver clear, persuasive oral and written communications to diverse audiences (members, media, partners).

Develop and oversee high-impact communications: newsletters, technical guidance, policy briefs, presentations, and web/social content.

Represent PCI publicly at tradeshows, conferences, regulatory hearings, and partner meetings; speak confidently on technical, policy, and market topics.

Events & Programs

Lead the planning and execution of PCI conferences, training programs, technical committees, and member meetings; secure sponsorships and partners.

Ensure exceptional in-person and virtual event delivery, including vendor and logistics coordination.

Advocacy & Industry Relations

Track and influence regulatory and legislative developments affecting powder coating technology, materials, and application.

Engage with government agencies, standards organizations, and industry coalitions to protect and advance member interests.

Preferred Qualifications
​

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or Certified Association Executive (CAE) preferred.

7–10+ years of senior leadership experience in association management, industrial manufacturing, coatings, or a related industry; proven track record working with or leading volunteer boards, advisory councils, or multi-stakeholder organizations.

Familiarity with industrial manufacturing, coatings technology, or related industries is a plus.

Exceptional oral and written communication skills; demonstrated comfort presenting before diverse audiences and media.

Proven ability to build deep, trust-based relationships with industry stakeholders and to convene and lead coalitions.

Strong leadership, project management, and organizational skills; ability to prioritize and drive results across competing initiatives.

Solid financial acumen with experience in budgeting and financial oversight.

Experience with association management software (AMS), collaboration tools, and Microsoft Office.

Willingness and ability to travel (approximately 25%) to represent PCI at industry events, site visits, and stakeholder meetings.

Ability to assist with event logistics.
